DRAMA - AT THE HOSPITAL

Hello again dear friends:

In this post, I want to show you the drama the students in our school have developed. They were patients, nurses and doctors for a day. Through this video we can learn some healthy habits we should have, some healthy food we should eat and some recommendations for a better life. It deals with the contents we have been working in Applied Knowledge, Natural Science and English. I hope you like it because they did it as professional actors and actresses and they enjoyed a lot that moment.

STORYTELLING BY ALAN KENNEDY - THE POOR SISTER

Hello again dear readers!

Although it is too late, I have to tell you the fact that our students of 4th level A and B enjoyed the storytelling titled “The Poor Sister” and played by the well-known storyteller Alan Kennedy last Wednesday, the 4th October. First of all, the students arrived to the assembly hall while listening to the amazing sound made by the Scottish pipe played by Alan (he is a good musician, too). When they sat, the story started.

Some days before, we were reading the plot of the story in the class and talking about different fairy tales the students knew, such us “The little red riding hood”, “The princess and the pea”, “Rapunzel”, etc. We talked about the story, the plot, the characters, the sceneries… and this idea prompted the students to take part in Alan’s story.

In “The poor sister”, a couple had two children, a horrible, spoiled little boy and a kind daughter. They preferred the boy and gave the younger girl lots of hard work. They wanted her to suffer. The girl’s pet was special and saved her from a hard life. They wore wigs and hats, they talked to each other in English and, the most important aim, they enjoyed their time a lot. When we went back to the classroom, we talked about the experience and all the students voted they want to repeat it next year. I am really proud of my students and the interest they show in the English lessons. Thanks Alan for you help and we hope you can came back next year. You can look at the photos just clicking the following one.

Regards, Christopher.

THANKSGIVING DAY - HISTORY AND VIDEOS

Hello again dear friends!

This post is about “Thanksgiving day”. Apart from Christmas, Thanksgiving is the most important festivity in the USA. It became a feast in the early days of the American colonies almost four hundred years ago.

In 1620 a boat filled with more than one hundred people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World. This religious group, called Pilgrim Fathers, had begun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it. Their first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late to grow many crops, and without fresh food, half the colony died from disease.

The following spring the Iroquois Indians taught them how to grow corn. They also showed how to hunt and fish. In the autumn of 1621, The Pilgrim Father to thank God and the Local Indians had a feast. After the USA became an independent country, Congress declared the fourth Thursday in November” Thanksgiving Day” a national holiday.

Turkey, corn, pumpkins and cranberry sauce are important symbols of this festivity. You can click the pictures and watch the video about this important festivity in the USA. Enjoy!!!

LIFE PROCESSES

Hello again dear friends!

In this post, we will review some basic concepts about the life processes. As you well know, life processes are necessary to maintain life. They are carried out by living things. Just click on the underlined words (the yellow ones) and the videos will be opened.

Nutrition is the process which provides your body with all the nutrients and energy that are necessary for life. It involves four processes: digestion (the main organs are the stomach and the intestines), respiration (the main organs are the lungs), circulation (the main organ is the heart) and excretion (the main organs are the kidneys).

The process of sensitivity is the ability to detect and respond to changes in the environment. It involves the sense organs (eyes, ear, nose, tongue and hands), the nervous system (the brain and the nerves) and the locomotor system (made up of the skeletal system and the muscular system).

The process of reproduction allows us to have offspring (children/babies) similar to ourselves through the sexual reproduction. Male reproductive organs and female reproductive organs are different and they develop during the stage of adolescence. The baby develops and become larger inside the mother’s uterus. This period is called pregnancy and lasts about nine months.

Thanks for visiting. Regards, Christopher.

As you know, next week is Halloween (October 31st), a day in which people wear scary costumes and they can be vampires, mummies, aliens, witches, wizards, skeletons, ghosts, spiders...

One of the most famous witches all over the world is Winnie the Witch, a woman who lives alone in her house and everything around her is black. She has a pet cat and it is black too, so this is a problem for her. How can she solve this? Just click on the pictures, watch the videos, guess it and enjoy her adventures.

ISMAEL'S TRIP TO PARIS

Hello again dear friends!

Today, in the amazing English lesson, Ismael (4th Level A) has shown us his trip to Paris with his family (his mother, Anabel and his father, Ismael).

They went to the most well-known museum in the capital city (“The Louvre Museum”) and they saw Da Vinci’s famous painting created in the 16th century “The Mona Lisa” or "La Gioconda".

They were with different characters such as Mickey, Donald, Buzz... and they had fun in the theme park, too.

What about you? What did you do last holidays? Were you in a different country? Did you visit any interesting places?

Waiting for your answers. Regards, Christopher.
