EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2011 - RUNNING SCARED WITH LYRICS

The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 was the 56th annual Eurovision Song Contest and was won by the Azerbaijani entry "Running Scared" performed by Eldar & Nigar. The event took place in the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, following Germany's win in the previous year. The two semi-finals took place on 10 May and 12 May 2011, while the final took place on the evening of 14 May 2011.

My students know my favourite song is “Fairytale” by Alexander Ribak (Norway, 2009), but “Running Scared” by Eldar & Nigar sounds good. I think using music and songs when teaching English can be beneficial for non-native English speaking students as well as fluent speakers. This article deals with our project “Junior Eurovision Song Contest”, where my students and students from different countries (Turkey, Romania, Italy…) developed their imagination and creativity through shows.

What is your favourite song? Please, comment this article. Remember, “ENGLISH IS FUN!!!!” and “Save this blog, your comments are important”

FAMILY MEMBERS - THE SIMPSONS FAMILY

The-family-members simpsonsMy students (and I) like "The simpsons": Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie... and we are studying the vocabulary related to family in class. I think the best way of learning a language is using material near them. In this way they reach, learn and practice the main goal. There is a family tree, grammar and there are several activities you can practice. Just click on play. I hope you like it.Your teacher and friend, Mr. Alonso

CAPITAL CITIES IN EUROPE (ITALY)

VIDEO AND READING COMPREHENSION TEXT ABOUT ITALY

Italy is a country located south-central Europe and shares borders with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.  Rome, the capital of Italy, was for numerous centuries the centre of Western Civilisation as capital of the Roman Empire.  Modern Italy is a democratic republic.  Interesting fact, Italy became the birthplace of the Renaissance, an intellectual movement that moulded European thought between the 13th and 16th centuries.

Italy's most popular tourist attractions are the Coliseum and the Pompeii ruins.  Italy is widely known for being the birthplace of opera and for having produced scientists and artists such as Galileo Galilei and Leonardo DaVinci.  Italy is the second most successful football team in the world after Brazil with four FIFA World Cup wins.

Are these statements true or false?

Italy is in north-central Europe
Italy is south of France.
Rome is the capital.
Italy is a Democratic Republic.
It is the birthplace of Renaissance.
Italy has won five FIFA cups
