TELLING THE TIME - WHAT TIME IS IT?

What time is it?

My dear students at 3rd level are studying the hours. They know how to ask for the time. They say: “Excuse me, what time is it, please?”

HELPING STUDENTS WITH PAST SIMPLE - REGULAR VERBS

My students at 5^th level have begun this week the grammar related to past simple of regular verbs. What do we use the past simple for?

• We use simple past to talk about actions or situations that happened in a defined time in the past.
• To talk about regular actions/situations in the past.
• We use it along certain adverbs or adverbial phrases in relation to past time.

Forms:

Affirmative: 

 Subject+ verb + - ed + objects.

Negative:

Subject+ aux. verb to do in the past (did) +not+ main verb (infinitive) + objects

Interrogative:

Aux. verb to do in the past (did) + subject+ main verb (infinitive) + objects

Useful adverbs for past simple:

YESTERDAY, THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY, LAST DAY, LAST WEEK, LAST SATURDAY, FEW DAYS AGO, TWO DAYS AGO, AT 9 O’CLOCK…
