Our students will start unit 6 (In my house) next week. As you know, at the end of this unit they will be able to identify different types of housing, to recognise building materials, to identify rooms and furniture in a house, to associate furniture with specific rooms, to interpret a floor plan, and to give one’s address. They can practice with this easy presentation (don’t worry, it contains audio and subtitles). I hope it helps you.
As you know, students (6th level) are learning the use and structures of “There is a/an…” “There are some…” “There isn’t a/an…” “There aren’t any…” “Is there a/an…?” “Are there any…?” This is the reason why I’ve decided they will have to write a brief essay using a picture (the picture they want) and the deadline will be next 1st February (Wednesday). They have to write 3 examples of each kind: 6 affirmatives (3 singulars and 3 plurals), 6 negatives (3 sing. and 3 plu.), and 6 interrogatives (3 sing. and 3 plu.) Here they are an example of each one I’ve done as an example.
Affirmative sentences:
There is a bed in the corner of the room.
There are two pens (yellow and green) on the floor of the room.
Negative sentences:
There isn’t a monster sat in the room.
There aren’t any rabbits on the floor of the room.
Our students (6th level) are learning the uses of “There is” and “There are” in positive, negative and interrogative sentences. The picture (grammar) and the video can help them.
Remember:
We use There is/There are to say that something exists (or does not exist). The real subject usually comes after There is/There are.
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES: use "There is" for singular nouns and things you cannot count.
There is a ghost in this room....
There is an apple on the desk.
There issomeoil in the pavement.
Use "There are" for plural nouns; that is to say, we use there are with a plural subject.
There are four windows in my room
There aresomewindows in my room
NEGATIVE SENTENCES: to say the opposite, (the negative form of this structure), use isn't (is + not) or aren't (are + not).
There isn't a balcony.
There isn’t an orange on the table
There aren'tanychairs in this room
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES: as almost always happens in English, to make questions with this structure change the order of the sentence at the beginning.
Here you are the worksheets our students have done in class. Just click the picture and download the files. The first one is about the song they are learning about family. They haven't learnt all, so we are little by little. The video is below (Wednesday, the 11th).
Students (4th level) are learning the structure of “Present Continuous”. They have learnt the structure of these sentences: SUBJECT + VERB TO BE + VERB + ING + COMPLEMENTS.
They have done the worksheet on the right. The answers, if you want to practise, are:
He is eating chocolate.
He is playing computer games.
He is cooking a roast chicken.
He is playing football.
She is playing the guitar.
She is driving a car.
She is doing exercise.
She is singing.
He is walking
He is eating a carrot.
She is feeding the cat.
She is reading a book.
I hope it can help you in order to learn the structure of this kind of sentences. Regards, Christopher.
This video is about animals and parts of the house. I think students will like it, because it is very funny. Using this song, they can review the topics "Animals" and "House"
This video is about "The family" our students are learning. It includes subtitles, so you can practice the pronunciation with them. Also, you have a picture with the main relationships among family members.
Here you are a video related to our topic: Growing Healthy - Good Hygiene. Dear parents, I have found this wonderful video (thanks Montepinar School, Murcia) with audio in order to help you with the proper pronunciation of the items. This video contains vocabulary related to:
Here you are one of my favourite songs. Adele is one of the best singer nowadays but… who is Adele?
Adele is a Grammy-awarded British singer born as Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, on May 5, 1988 inNorth London. She herself describes her music as something meant for heartbroken people. She is the very first artist awarded with the "Critics' Choice" in the 2007 BRIT Awards, which is given to performers who have not yet launched an album during the time of the award-giving ceremony.
In May of the year 2006, Adele graduated from Croydon's BRIT school, which was also attended by artists such as Leona Lewis, Kate Nash, Amy Winehouse, etc. A month after her graduation, Adele published a couple of her songs on PlatformsMagazine.com and eventually started participating in small gigs in the UK. She also joined a tour with Jack Penate (her bestfriend), and other performers like Amos Lee, the Exist band, etc.
Write a comment writing your favourite songs in English Language and… who know? Maybe it will appear here in a near future.
Last Wednesday, 21st december, students from Las Lomas School celebrated the Christmas Holidays with plays and Christmas carols in English Language. Each class made different things, such as:
1st level A: Christmas Carol - Frosty, the snowman
1st level B: Christmas Carol – We wish you a Merry Christmas
2nd level A: Christmas Carol – Let it snow
2nd level B: A Christmas Carol
4th level A: Christmas play – The Little Christmas Spider
4th level B: Christmas Carol – Around the Christmas Tree
5th level A: Christmas Carol – Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer
5th level B: Christmas play – Jesus Birth
6th level: Christmas play – Christmas around the world
Students (4th level A), played this Christmas story “The Little Christmas Spider”. It is full of characters (something for every kid) and it’s intertwined with kids´ rhymes and songs. This story shows that every single creature in the world has a purpose, regardless of the way it looks, and it’s a bit old-fashioned, being based on traditional Christmas world tales.
The little spider Itsy Bitsy lived on a little farm. She didn’t like winter, because snow always broke his webs. Itsy Bitsy lives all alone. She had no family and no friends. And why? All because the other animals thought she was ugly and scary. But this is a special day for Itsy Bitsy. His life is going to change...
I hope you like the video, because all my students got fun while playing the story. Thanks a lot dear students and families: Mario (cow), Marta A (girl)., Armando (snowflake), Sebastián (donkey), Natalia (Itsy Bitsy Spider), Damián (bird), María G. (sheep), Sergio (bear), María J. (narrator), María L. (Mary), Andrea (snowman), Alejandro (Joseph), José (boy), Paula (fly), Isabel (narrator), Gabriela (rabbit), Daniela (fly) and Irene (snowflake).
Last December, we celebrated Christmas time at school. We sang “Frosty, the snowman”, took photos and “The Three Wise Men” visited us!!!
Here you are a video and photos about that time when we got fun and celebrated that funny time. I hope you like them. Next February, we will celebrate our dearest “Carnival”, and we are glad because one of the important characters of the carnival, the “Cuaresma Infantil” studies in our school. She is Ana Terrones, on the right and you have a video related to our famous festivity. We like Carnival!!!!
I've been very busy these Christmas holidays, but I'm here again for you. The first post of this year is about Christmas. Students have to face up the cards and make pairs. Also, they can describe the colours (Christmas decorations, Christmas tree, presents...) I hope you like it. Just click the picture and GET FUN!!!!
Students sang "Frosty, the snowman" very well, and I have to create a video using photos of that day. I'll upload it as soon as possible.
My students (5th level) are studing the topic: "Countries and Nationalities". Here they are simple exercises related to this topic. They have to look at the pictures and choose the correct answer, find 11 nationalities and write them below the countries and look at the example and write. These can be used as reinforcement or extension exercises. Just click the picture and get fun.
Here you are our new project: AMINATA'S TRAVEL, an etwinning project in collaboration with Nadine Jolu and her students from France.
Aminata is a doll which comes from Africa (Senegal). She will be in different schools in Europe. Students have to describe and tell her how is their school, classroom, environment, etc.
We will start this project next term, because nowadays we are on Christmas holidays and we will come back school next monday, 9th January. I'll upload all our works and descriptions.
